This past weekend I had the opportunity of attending the Tet (Vietnamese name for the Lunar New Year) celebration at Blue Cliff Monastery. I have been a student of Thich Nhat Hanh for the past few years and had the opportunity of attending one of his retreats a couple of years back, but this was my first visit to one of his monasteries. It was a weekend full of celebration and community.
I received many gifts of wisdom over the weekend, including a reading of the Oracle (more to come on this soon)! My favorite quote received was:
The beginning of love
is to let those we love be perfectly themselves,
and not to twist them to fit our own image.
Otherwise we love only the reflection
of ourselves we find in them.
Thich Nhat Hanh happens to be featured in Oprah’s O Magazine this month (article here).
