Lauren Bush, the mastermind behind the social conscious FEED bag, launched a new fashion label this past year, Lauren Pierce. Her website describes it as “a peace offering to our interconnected world. It is a conscious expression of respect for the earth and our collective humanity…it celebrates the many rich cultures of the world in hopes of creating a universal aesthetic.”
In 2005, Lauren became an Honorary Spokesperson for the UN World Food Programme, traveling around the world to visit its operations. And in 2006, Lauren conceptualized FEED Projects by designing an eco-friendly, burlap bag with proceeds going to feed hungry children in schools. It is this combination of fashion and philanthropy that has always been Lauren’s passion.
Each season Lauren Pierce contributes 10% of the line’s profits to a cause that affects women in the country from which it has sourced that season’s artisanal materials. The spring 2009 collection included pieces that were hand dyed in the DRC. 10% of the proceeds from the collection will go to Women for Women International.
