Hole in the Wall Gang

JM celebrating his 1st remission from ALL. He is currently battling a relapse. He is one tough kid!

I honestly was unaware of the extent of Paul Newman’s philanthropic work prior to his death.  What an incredible individual! I was blown away by the countless testiments of his charitable work.  My Chemo Angel patient JM attends Hole in the Wall camps and raves about them.

The camps serve 13,000 children every year, free of charge! One camp has expanded to become several Hole in the Wall Camps in the U.S., Ireland, France, and Israel. I absolutly love the internationl piece as pediatric cancer patients abroad don’t have near the opportunites available to them as peds onc kids in the US.

One of my favorite programs they offer is the “Camp-in-a-Suitcase” programs for New England hospitals and clinics, where bedside experience is provided to raise the spirits and help sustain youngsters for the road ahead.

  1. My friend Michael, who’s also a former mentor for the LIVESTRONG Challenge and an amazing fundraiser, rode his bike across the United States from Disneyland to Walt Disney World last year – 3343.7 miles in 32 days to raise money for the Hole in the Wall Camps (http://www.teamholeinthewall.org/michaelbirdsong)

It’s a truely remarkable organization and I’ll probably run the 2010 Berlin marathon to raise money for them.

Awesome Henrike! JM’s dad just ran the Boston Marathon for Hole in the Wall camp.
